# nomouse

> nomouse is a macOS app that moves, clicks, scrolls and drags the pointer from the keyboard, system-wide. Unlike event-tap keyboard tools, it keeps working inside password fields and sudo prompts (macOS Secure Input). It is in private preview with about 50 regular users.

## How it works

- Free mode: tap left Option. H J K L move the pointer (tap = step, hold = smooth ramp), U / I scroll, Y / O scroll sideways, Space clicks, ; right-clicks, ' middle-clicks, hold A/S/D to go faster, Fn to go slower, Esc exits. A breathing glow border shows the mode is on.
- Grid mode: tap left Command. The screen splits into 25 cells labelled QWERT / ASDFG / HJKLP / YUION / BCVMX; two letters land the pointer, a 9×3 subgrid refines it, Space clicks, Backspace undoes a key.
- Hint mode: Command-Shift-Space labels clickable elements exposed through macOS Accessibility.
- Shape mode: Command-Shift-D draws circles, rectangles, arrows and lines as real strokes from the pointer; size and rotation persist between uses.
- Multiple monitors: tap left or right Shift to hop monitors; P locks free mode to one monitor.
- Every binding is remappable in a YAML config.

## Security model

A small root helper reads the keyboard at the IOKit HID layer, below Secure Input. It never logs keystrokes, accepts connections only from the code-signed nomouse app (or root), forwards only modifier keys and Control/Command/Fn shortcuts while idle, supports exactly two commands (capture keys, release keys), and releases the keyboard after 30 seconds of inactivity or when the app disconnects.
